A transdisciplinary artist working within the field of generalized ecological disruption and entropy (the second law of thermodynamics), I draw on the tools of music and sound art, as well as visual arts — including photography, video, and cartography — to give voice to environments. My approach is both mesological (in the sense of Augustin Berque) and feral (in the sense of Anna Tsing), and focuses on the ongoing dialogue between what pertains to dwelling, the technical entities of the human world, and the spaces of an érème disqualified by Western civilization.

My work consists of a non-exoticizing perspective on the geographical and social situations I encounter, and takes form through exhibitions (drawings, photographs, maps…), as well as numerous phonographic productions, concerts, and live performances.

In parallel, I work as a practitioner in architecture and urbanism, and have been engaged for over twenty years with the urban, climatic, and social transformations of our contemporary society.

In my work, I mobilize fragility as a way to re-engage, however imperfectly, a more amicable relationship with the microlocal and the living world.

” The question of technique, architecture, or music stands at the very core of Julien Lachal’s thought—at times the object of critique, at others, of poetic reverie. It serves as a gateway through which the creative process opens itself to the phenomenological play of memory, and thus, to the very possibility of history.”
— S.DADOUR, ARCHISTORM
