IMPROVISED ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC MUSIC
Hypothèses Gaïa is the result of an experimental musical approach within the Shamanic Bicycle project, based on a prepared and motorized acoustic instrumentarium. The sonic materials, derived from improvisation, are sculpted live through a spectral electroacoustic setup. A journey of timbres and the unfolding of textures in the immersive space of multichannel diffusion, the sonic propositions explore the forms of a “Gaia Hypothesis” within the musical realm.

The Shamanicbicycle is primarily a laboratory, a multifaceted vehicle for musical and sonic experiences for a single musician. It is a hybrid of a polymorphic machine-instrument where the musician blends into the gears, and where the machines embody the transformation into music. The setup explores random textures and the timbral logic of friction. It subverts the traditional use of instruments and expands their sonic spaces through motorized actuators.
Wind instruments are played and interact with prepared-automaton instruments (strings and percussion equipped with small motors and druming devices).
Real-time electronic sound sculpting, created live without pre-recorded material, interacts with the acoustically produced sound.
The spectral techniques employed range from the simplest forms of archaic materials (branches, stones, pine cones…) to advanced digital technologies (Hollyhock Usine), alongside fairly typical free jazz instruments, but prepared or played according to exploratory methods:
- WIND INSTRUMENTS
(soprano/tenor saxophones, bass clarinet, flutes, shruti box, whistles) - PREPARED DRUMS AND PREPARED STRINGS
(snare drum, floor tom, cymbals, bass drum, hurdy-gurdy, cello…) - LIVE ELECTRO-ACOUSTICS
(hollyhock factory)
